Jeremiah School: Where Every Ability Is a Gift

Nestled in Johnson City, Tennessee, Jeremiah School is redefining what education looks like for students on the autism spectrum. Guided by Jeremiah 29:11 — “For I know the plans I have for you…” — the school’s mission is to provide a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment where students can build positive relationships and reach their greatest potential.

With a deeply held belief that every person is created in the image of God, students are part of a community where every student is seen, valued, and equipped with the skills to thrive.

A Holistic, Individualized Approach

Offering a customized curriculum that goes beyond traditional academics, Jeremiah School is bridging the gap between education and life skills. While students study core subjects like language arts and math, equal emphasis is placed on social and emotional learning, workplace experiences, and transition to adulthood. This holistic model is designed not just to educate but to empower students to engage confidently and independently with the world around them.

Staff members tailor learning to each student’s strengths, needs, and interests. Some students learn one-on-one, others in small groups, but all are encouraged to build meaningful connections with teachers, peers, families, and the wider community.

Engaging the Community

Jeremiah School is more than a classroom — it’s a family. Core values that celebrate individuality, leadership development, and community partnership shape daily life. Students aren’t just preparing for tests; they’re gaining confidence, emotional resilience, and the kinds of life skills that help them flourish beyond the school walls. Part of that experience is volunteering and engaging in the local community. Seeking opportunities to partner with families, local churches, businesses, schools, and programs within the region is at the very heart of their mission.

When Executive Director Jo Cullen first heard about Trinity Grace Farm (TGF) she knew instantly the space would be an incredible resource for helping students to learn and grow.

“The entire high school goes out into the community to volunteer every week, gaining valuable soft skills and experience for their resumes,” says Jo. “By visiting and volunteering at Trinity Grace Farm—helping maintain the grounds through mowing, trimming, and other tasks—students gain practical job and life skills that will serve them well into adulthood."

A Partnership for All Abilities

For families seeking an educational environment where uniqueness is celebrated, relationships are central, and every student’s potential is nurtured, Jeremiah School offers something rare and deeply meaningful. A place where differences aren’t just accommodated — they’re embraced, understood, and intentionally supported as students build confidence, skills, and independence.

Trinity Grace Farm knows how powerful this approach can be. Like Jeremiah School, TGF believes that everyone deserves a place where they belong — a place designed with accessibility, dignity, and opportunity at the forefront. Through inclusive outdoor experiences, hands-on learning, and community connection, Trinity Grace Farm creates space for individuals of all abilities to grow, explore, and thrive.

Together, Jeremiah School and Trinity Grace Farm reflect a shared commitment: meeting people where they are, celebrating what makes them unique, and creating pathways for meaningful participation in the world around them. It’s a partnership rooted in compassion, inclusion, and the belief that every person has value, purpose, and gifts to share.

For Jo, the feeling of belonging was unforgettable. “Gathering around the fireplace as Dave McAuley shared the story of TGF, followed by a walk through the peaceful woodland, was both an uplifting and grounding experience. We all felt deeply connected—to nature, to one another, and to the beauty of creation. It’s a truly inspiring place, and we feel so fortunate to have access to it.”
